Dusty Gates, M.A.

For almost a century now, the story-telling of J.R.R. Tolkien has captured the imaginations of readers young and old; transporting them to a fantasy world where dwarves, elves, wizards, and men fight together against the powers of darkness. Tolkien’s world is an enchanted one; full of magic, mystery, and deep meaning.

Tolkien described his “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy as a “fundamentally religious and Catholic work”, and a careful look into his epic trilogy, as well as some of his other writings, reveals many spiritual gems for Christian readers. Encounter J.R.R. Tolkien as you never have before at this overnight retreat and day workshop.

On Thursday, June 1, “An Evening with J.R.R. Tolkien” will feature an introductory presentation on the author, including his biography and a glimpse into the ways he used imagination to lead readers to an encounter of reality: truth, goodness, justice, and beauty. Friday will feature reflections from “The Hobbit”, “The Lord of the Rings”, and his wonderful short story “Leaf by Niggle”, as well as some afternoon leisure time with Tolkien-inspired activities.
